Nighttime Skincare Routine
It wasn’t until the past few years that I started using moisturizer consistently. For years, I’ve seen Taylor do her multi-step skincare routine, and have recently decided to start a routine of my own. It’s been really nice to have a nighttime routine to relax and wind down before bed. Having these various products that I enjoy using makes the routine something I’m looking forward to.
In my post about self care, I talked a little bit about my routine and some of the products I use. There was some interest in hearing more details, so here it is! Disclaimer that I’m not very well versed in the different types of products available and how effective they are, but Taylor is, and she has guided me in picking out most of these things. The main thing I’m looking for is something that smells good and/or makes my skin feel soft.
Shower
I want to eat this body scrub
I shower at night before bed. I forgot to take a picture of my face cleanser, but I use Cetaphil daily cleanser. For my beard, I recently picked up an OUAI shampoo and conditioner. These definitely make my beard feel very soft! I only shampoo every few days, but condition every day. The shampoo and conditioner smell good, but not mind blowing. I’m not sure if I’ll continue using these or try something else once I’ve used them up. What DOES smell mind blowingly good is the OUAI St. Barts body scrub. I only use this every couple days, but oh my god it smells so good. For body wash, we’ve been rotating through some various scents from Method lately. I really like the Island Mist one we’re using now.
Face and Beard
I like smelling like roses
After my shower, I take my little basket of skincare products to the bedroom, put a silly YouTube vide on my tablet, vibe out and moisturize. I apply the Fresh rose toner first, then the face cream. And yes, I do use these on the top of my bald head! These smell good and make my face feel soft. I have this Pyunkang Yul eye cream that I use under my eyes. I honestly couldn’t tell you if this makes a difference compared to the face cream, but I’m happy to have another step in my routine. Taylor said she thinks it is generally good to have something a little more gentle for sensitive areas like under your eyes. I’d be open to any suggestions for other eye creams!
Then I use a beard oil for my beard. I’ve been using this one for years, it smells very woody and nice. It’s been a while since I’ve looked for other beard oil brands, so I’m not sure if they’re all still “man scents” or if I could perhaps find one with a more floral scent. I like this one but will look for others to try sometime, probably.
Body
This smells almost as good as the body scrub of the same scent
When done with my face products, I’ve been using this OUAI St. Barts body creme for my entire freaking body. I can’t honestly say that I can notice it making my skin softer or anything, but it does smell great. I would be interested to hear any suggestions for hand and body lotions!
The ingredients necessary for Sloppy Dogs
For my feet, I’m using this Pyunkang Yul foot cream. This definitely makes my feet feel softer! I also use a foot scrubber thing in the shower. I apply the lotion then put socks on, a maneuver coined “Sloppy Dogs” by our friend Fieldy. You should give it a try.
Trying this pajamas thing
When I’m all moisturized, I put on some… pajamas? Loungewear? I dunno, soft comfortable clothes that I wear for the rest of the night and in bed. Nothing special here, just a comfy shirt and lightweight sweats.
Outside
I don’t really know where to put this in the blog post
Sunscreen is stuff that I’m trying to be better about using, but isn’t part of my nighttime routine. I use this CANMAKE Mermaid Skin Gel (what a name) as a lightweight face sunscreen, at Taylor’s recommendation. I’m currently using this Hawaiian Tropic sunscreen for before I do some kind of exercise outside. Not much went into the decision to use this, it’s just what we have right now. I’d be interested to hear any opinions on good sunscreens for outdoor activities, especially if you sweat a lot.
Conclusion
And there you have it! These are all the products I use as part of my nighttime shower and skincare routine. Something I’ve learned about myself lately is that routines go a long way toward making sure I feel like and remember that I am a human. Perhaps more importantly, I’ve found that it’s much easier to keep up with a routine if it’s something that I look forward to. Finding some products that bring me joy (primarily because they smell good) has been a great way to make this routine something that I look forward to.
I’d love to hear about any particular products you love! If there are any particular areas you’re looking for a suggestion in a product, I would be happy to forward your query on to the expert in the house (Taylor).
